The federal cabinet has approved Rs1.27 per unit hike in electricity tariff on Thursday. The increase in power tariff will not affect domestic consumers using below 300 units.
While addressing a press conference after the meeting, Finance Minister Asad Umar said that power tariff for consumers using between 300 to 700 units has been raised by 10%, whereas, 15% increase in power tariff has been approved for consumers using more than 700 units.
The minister furhter informed that commercial users with less than 5kv have been exempted from the increase in power tariff. It will only affect five percent of major industrial units.
He said the main aim of the government is to reduce the deficit and increase country’s exports.
