A three-judge Apex Court bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will take up the video scandal case that alleges Arshad Malik of ruling against former prime minister Nawaz Sharif “under external pressure”.
In the previous hearing, Supreme Court took suggestions of Attorney General regarding constitution of a probe commission into the controversy.
Chief Justice Asif Khosa said: “There’s no doubt that what the judge [in the leaked video] said were extraordinary statements. If the Supreme court gives its judgement then the case under Accountability court will definitely get affected”.
He asserted that the case did not focus on the authenticity of leaked video, but on the misconduct of judge Arshad Malik.
Chief Justice affirmed that judiciary neither gets influenced by anyone nor takes the suggestion of any person while taking actions.
“Whatever the court has to do, it will do by itself and not anyone’s demands. The judicial system does not run on anyone’s behest. The search of truth has been a universal motive even before the arrival of men onto earth”, CJP Asif Khosa remarked while addressing Petitioner Ishtiaq Mirza’s lawyer Munir Sadiq.
The court then put off hearing till July 23.
It is to be noted that a citizen of Islamabad named, Ishtiaq Ahmed Mirza had filed the petition in the Apex court, insisting it to order an investigation of the purported video and take action against those involved.
The petition viewed that the inquiry will respond to questions raised on the judiciary’s dignity, respect and independence and insisted the court investigating the matter at all cost.
The petition made the federal government, Shahbaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, Shahid Khaqan Abbassi and Raja Zafar Ul Haq while the main character of the video Judge Arshad Malik and Nasir Butt respondents.
