Fake messaging app Anom snares 800 criminals in global sting
More than 100 lives were saved by a global sting that tricked criminals into using a messaging app which was created by the FBI to be secretly monitored by police and intelligence services.

Eight hundred criminals have been arrested as part of the operation.

“Not only have we heard about the number of arrests and the number of seizures, but over 100 threats to life that were mitigated,” Calvin Shivers, FBI assistant director, told reporters at the European police agency Europol’s headquarters in the Hague.

More than 250 suspects in Australia and New Zealand were among arrests in 18 countries following the three-year operation against organised crime.
